Aunts and Uncles

Why is there no such thing as an "Aunt and Uncle Day"? Father's have their own day, mother's have their own day, grandparents have their own day. . there is even a day set aside for people who like to talk like pirates!! But, alas, nothing for the beloved Aunts and Uncles of the world. This just isn't right!

Consider this: Who did Dorothy miss and long to return home to see? Auntie Em and Uncle Henry!

Who nurtured young Peter Parker so that there would one day be The Amazing Spiderman? Aunt May and Uncle Ben!

Who took in an infant Luke Skywalker long before he became a Jedi and saved the galaxy from The Empire? Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru!

Who did Scarlet O'Hara run to in order to seek refuge from the war after the death of her first husband? Aunt Pittypat!

My happiest memories growing up are those of my Aunt Mert and Uncle Herb. As well as Aunt Bonnie and Uncle Tommy and Aunt Sonnie and Uncle Darius. And, of course, Aunt Connie.*

I salute the Aunts and Uncles; the unsung branches of the family tree. You may not have your own day but thank God you are there for us just the same.

River is blessed with some wonderful Aunts and Uncles and I hope, over time, she is able to cultivate as many rich and happy memories as I have been able to do.

River also recently received a really cool t-shirt from her Aunt Kim. River loves to receive mail and Aunt Kim surprises her frequently.

It says, "Someone who loves me very much went to New York and got me this t-shirt".

* Did you notice the names rhymed? I have Aunts Connie, Bonnie, Sonnie and Uncles Ronnie, Donnie and Monnie in my family. Oh, and my mother's name is Lonnie.
